Quick answer
Most visitors who don't need a UK visa, including travellers from the USA, Canada, Australia and Europe, need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travelling. It costs £20, allows stays of up to 6 months at a time, and lasts 2 years or until your passport expires. Irish citizens don't need one.
How much does a UK ETA cost?
£20 since 8 April 2026 (it was £16 before). Apply only through the official UK ETA app or GOV.UK; other websites may charge more.
